Recent
legislation in New South Wales has led to the requirement
under BASIX for rainwater tanks to be installed on
new houses built in the state. This project in Nelson
Bay required individual tanks to be constructed with
each house.
Given the site restrictions on each lot, it was necessary
to create systems that were long and narrow and could
fit into the tight spaces. Above ground tanks was
not an option due to the lack of space and for aesthetic
reasons.
Each system comprises of an EnviroSump Filtration
Unit that pre-filters water before passing into a
2000 litre Rainwater Harvesting tank. The tank is
surrounded in a pre-welded liner that acts as a bladder
to store water.
A pipe from beneath the tank feeds into a pump well
that contains a submersible pump. The water is then
used for toilet flushing. Excess water from the rainwater
tank overflows into an infiltration tank.
The size of the infiltration tank varies depending
on the roof area of the house. A 150mm pipe with end
cap has been installed as an inspection point at the
end of each system.
